Good music, good staff, good food, good drinks!
Our server was wonderful. The establishment and the food were awful. Having worked in restaurants ourselves, we are pretty understanding of how things go.....this is a very poorly managed restaurant. Waited for food for over an hour, the food was regrettably terrible, and tasted like it was microwaved. Not to mention that they ran out of the first 3 things we ordered. Clearly the management has no idea how to order product. Absolutely one of the worst restaurant experiences we have ever had. Cannot recommend frequenting this establishment, and feel bad for the staff that must apologize for it.
This is my favorite bar in downtown amherst. It separates itself by being less of a "college" bar than the others and has pool tables, craft beer and food.
It was my second time going back with my dear friend Kristen she loves the high horse she has been there many times before but last night they screwed up her drink she had ask for a Shirley Temple drink and instead got mixture of simply syrup pickle juice and seltzer water she got very sick and i wasn't very happy.
Great local place for drinks, beer, and a bite to eat. Bartenders are excellent and remember you by name. We were in one afternoon and chatting with Dylan at the bar. The following week, we returned and he remembered our names, putting them on the check. A little customer service goes a long way!!
Good food but service is not amazing it’s almost as if they don’t care you’re there
Solid burgers and other American food, the bottomless fries are great too. The brews are pretty solid too. All that paired with nice ambience, and it is a pleasant place to grab a bit and enjoy a brew.
GREAT Food, AND drinks!..
Great food and great vibes!
Pros: Right in downtown, Foods taste good. Cons: Had to remind the waitresses 3 different times for 3 different things and mistakes she made, Extremely high cost! Just burger will cost u at least 16+$, Too loud music, too dim lights (to the point where u cant even figure whats exactly inside ur burger). So, if you are willing to pay the unjustified high cost then taste wont be an issue.
Tasty food, attentive service and fun changing beer list.
We were there Saturday night and it was a disaster. We showed up at 7p, put our name on the wait list. The hostess explained more than half the menu was sold out or not available. We waited until 8p for a seat, and then left. There were plenty of seats, but the kitchen was not taking orders. These folks either lost the chef or did not pay their vendors, but don't waste your time.
Very impressed by the food. Very fresh salad. Had a good weekend brunch. They also make good drinks and the staff is friendly and efficient. Good house made veggie burger too
Burgers and Nachos are tasty. However they can improve the collection of the beer and spirits. Plenty of space to accommodate a big group.
Great Staff, Excellent Service, and a very deliciously abstract menu.
Fave spot in downtown Amherst. Good vibes and knowledgeable bartenders 😎
Haven't had a satisfying meal here in a long time. Fine for beer and mediocre pub fare, but don't bother if you are looking for a good dinner. Sad, because it started out as a great restaurant years ago.
Good beer, low key, and friendly.
Went into High Horse with my wife and 15-month old daughter and after sitting at our table for over an hour, we left having not eaten. We ordered nachos, wings, chicken tenders and a hot dog...all food that takes 5 minutes to prepare. After about 40 minutes our server came over to us to apologize for the delay, offered us a discount, and said our food would hopefully be ready soon. 30 minutes later, she comes back to tell us that not only is our food still not ready, but she had no idea how much longer it would be. We’re pretty understanding people, but there were maybe three other tables occupied in the restaurant at the time...for this to happen is really unacceptable.
Went here with a friend from Europe who was visiting. Ordered 2 beers. Friend paid but he didn’t tip (in Europe it’s customary not to tip for food, let alone a drink)But get this -Bartender FOLLOWED us out of the building asking for a tip. Saying it was rude to not tip. But following a person out begging for nickels is professional and ok? 0 / 5 stars :)
Consistently okay-ish food. Perhaps one of the most popular places for beer and burgers in Amherst, but that does not mean the food is the best.
Very nice. Avoid the guy in the corner working on his art project.
Okay. Friendly. Lots of drink choices. Food is very so so. So if only drinking, probably a higher rating.
Great food, great beer
The service is really bad. I have been here multiple times since the start of the fall semester at varying times/days of the week. I've had different servers every time. The service is consistently polite but inept and SO SLOW. The food I have had tastes good but is over-priced for the portions. I do not recommend this establishment. It's unfortunate that there are not a ton of options in this town.
Very sad to see what has happened to the bar upstairs. We were served by a man who not only told me they don’t sell a beer that was on their menu, but also messed up the drinks of all 3 of the other members of my party. I used to frequent high horse and believed it was the best bar on the downtown strip. Such a shame.
Good for snack meals. Dining area is separate from the bar.
If I could give a place zero stars this would be the one. Not to be rude or anything but practically everything about this experience (except for the waitress who remained pleasant despite our complaints and the drinks) was a disaster. They need to step it up big time! P.S: New England Clam Chowder is NOT brown and DOES NOT have carrots in it!
Fair drink prices, and great company.
Love the cocktails here and the black bean soup with grilled cheese is a must-have! Slightly pricy for a college student, but well worth it.
Good drinks - beer. Nice billiards.
The location is nice and the ambient is cool. The food, however, did not impress.
Perfect place to enjoy a couple of drinks over a conversation with friends or on a date.
The food is good, but dear lord their service has gone down hill. I am sitting here currently. We waited over half an hour for our appetizer- fries .when they came out we got less than half an order of cold, stale fries. Once sent back we got a proper order after another 10 minutes. After nearly an hour my salmon came out... Along with the news that they did not have any more grits with which to complete my husband's order of shrimp and grits. That was made nearly an hour ago. This is ridiculous. We were offered a free beer but no waive for my husband's meal... Simply awful. I've been a fan of High Horse for years and am so disappointed and upset by this awful dining experience. Better customer service please!
Good grub. Unfortunately it was the server's "first day" like people have not heard that at every restaurant when service is lacking....
LOVE LOVE LOVE this place! Great food and even more delicious beer. The nachos here are no joke and the Mac and cheese is to die for!
Love this place. Unbelievable nachos!! Great waitstaff, fun for a night out or a sit down meal. Such a fun and relaxed atmosphere. By far my favorite bar in Amherst and it is right in the center of town. Good prices on food and drinks, variety of options for seating and location, GREAT outside seating in the summer.
Food was good, the service was awesome.
Decent grub and expensive quality beer. Seemingly obsessed with mason jars. Chefs here have some strange tastes with thing such as fennel in clam chowder and fried avacado.
Overpriced but good food. The burgers used to be almost twice the size of what they are now, and more flavorful. I'd say they're still good but they're so small it's hard to tell. The menu is creative and the dishes are well-executed with small portions. It feels out of place in this college area, but maybe not for Amherst college students (for those out of town: Amherst college students are rich).
Weird aesthetic but good drinks.
Aaron the bartender knows how to make a mean mix drink even if it's not on the menu. I'm impressed. Do come here while he's working here. Deserves a promotion!
This restaurant is a foodie's delight! The food is incredible, the drinks list full of indie-crafted beers, wines, and liquors, and the staff is gracious and friendly. If you are in Amherst you MUST check out this place!
Great place to hangout and you can play pool!!!
Good selection of beer on tap but it definitely could be colder. Seems to always be almost warm when you order it upstairs. Interesting atmosphere upstairs with pool.
Great bartenders good music selection
It is nice and the food is good but it is comically over priced. Too much effort into presentation and seeming cool without enough value.
Food was beyond sub par. Ordered poutine which consisted of cold fries, gelatinous gravy and cheese. Completely inedible. That was just for starters. Needless to say very disappointed.
Nicest bar in Amherst. Also the most expensive, but you get what you pay for. It attracts a more... sophisticated crowd.
